Console Connect recognised as gold-tier Google Verified Peering Provider

By Alex Hawkes|7 May, 2024

In the cloud-centric world of today, enterprises rely on highly available connectivity for access to public-facing Google Cloud apps, Google Workspace, or Google APIs.

Some also need to access latency sensitive Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solutions, combining security and networking services on one cloud platform. In both cases, there is a good chance that the workforce needing access is distributed

All these requirements mean enterprises need to know if and where their internet service provider(s) (ISPs) connect to Google’s network with redundant, low-latency, and highly available connectivity, something that is a challenge for all but the most sophisticated of organisations.

To make life easier, Console Connect is proud to announce that it has been awarded a gold-tier Google Verified Peering Provider (VPP) badge, identifying it as a Google-recognised ISP offering enterprise-grade internet services with diverse peering connectivity to Google.

As a Google VPP, Console Connect Internet On-Demand offers Google Cloud customers a high quality and low-latency connectivity with its globally diversified and highly resilient peering connections with Google, enabling diverse access to publicly-facing Internet applications hosted in the Google Cloud.

What is peering?

The internet is a ‘network of networks’ and peering is the interconnection of these administratively separate internet networks for the purpose of exchanging traffic between each. A peering agreement between two or more networks is established by a physical interconnection of the networks, an exchange of routing information via the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and an agreement on conduct.

Direct Peering exists outside of Google Cloud and enables an organisation to establish a direct peering connection between its business network and Google's edge network to exchange high-throughput cloud traffic. Such an agreement is highly technical and beyond the capabilities of all but the most sophisticated and largest enterprises.

What is a Google Verified Peering Provider (VPP)?

Many Google customers today are not prepared to manage complex Direct Peering connections, or do not meet the requirements to do so.

The Google Verified Peering Provider program offers Google customers an alternative to Direct Peering, by identifying ISPs with optimised Google public connectivity.

Using a VPP like Console Connect lets you reach all publicly available Google Cloud resources over the internet, without the need to directly peer with Google. Console Connect manages all aspects of the Direct Peering arrangements with Google.

Advantages of choosing a Verified Peering Provider

For Google customers, using a VPP means you can leave the complexities of peering arrangements to the ISPs, getting easy access to highly available connectivity solutions to reach publicly available Google resources such as Workspace and other internet-facing applications.

For Google Cloud connectivity, this provides a number of advantages:

  • Simplified connectivity: Using a VPP to connect to Google removes the complexity of managing Direct Peering connectivity. Console Connect handles all aspects of peering connectivity, including provisioning, network operations, capacity management and troubleshooting, allowing you to focus on your core business.
  • Enterprise-grade connectivity: VPPs like Console Connect offer a variety of internet services designed for enterprises, such as Internet On-Demand. VPPs can also provide operational support for internet connectivity issues.
  • Google-verified criteria: Each VPP adheres to requirements such as redundant and physically diverse connectivity to Google’s edge network, which minimises latency changes during network outages. As a Gold VPP, Console Connect has physically diverse connectivity to Google in multiple metropolitan areas, and the requirements to become a VPP go above and beyond, with providers required to ensure quick troubleshooting when network issues arise.

“Being a Verified Peering Provider is a great way for ISPs to demonstrate their commitment to providing their customers with high-quality service,” said Brian Quigley, Vice President, Google Global Network Infrastructure. “We're excited to welcome Console Connect to the program as we deliver improved connectivity and reliability to our customers."
